Lake Street Dive's Rachael Price, Punch Brothers, and Gaby Moreno are among the artists who will perform at The Kennedy Center's 50th Anniversary Celebration Concert, hosted by Audra McDonald with special guest Caroline Kennedy on September 14. The event will be broadcast on PBS as The Kennedy Center at 50 on October 1. Other performers include Christian McBride, Ben Folds, Kelli O'Hara, Renée Fleming, and more.

Chris Thile, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Rhiannon Giddens, Jeremy Denk, Mandy Patinkin, Gaby Moreno, and Nico Muhly will take part in NY PopsUp, a festival featuring hundreds of pop-up performances—many of which are free of charge and all open to the public—throughout New York City and State. Additionally, Thile and Salvant are on a council of artistic advisors partnering with curator Zack Winokur to program the series. NYPopsUp, which will run from Saturday, February 20, through Labor Day, will make stages out of existing landscapes, including iconic transit stations, parks, subway platforms, museums, skate parks, street corners, fire escapes, parking lots, storefronts, and upstate venues. The festival is being coordinated with state public health officials and will strictly adhere to Department of Health COVID-19 protocols.

A 2020 update to Chris Thile's song "Thank You, New York," featuring Gaby Moreno, from his 2017 album Thanks for Listening, is the setting for choreographer Justin Peck's new piece, which the New York City Ballet premiered. The performance, choreographed and directed by Peck, with cinematography by Jody Lee Lipes, is the culmination of NYCB's five-week digital fall season. Congratulations to Gaby Moreno and Van Dyke Parks, whose 2019 Nonesuch album, ¡Spangled!, has been nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. ¡Spangled! celebrates the migration of song across the Americas, spanning more than a century, including a bolero from Panama, a bossa nova from Brazil, a song by Moreno, Trinidadian songwriter David Rudder's "The Immigrants," and an elegiac ballad from the Southwest US: Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, and Jim Dickinson’s “Across the Borderline." Winners will be announced on November 19.

While we can't go out to take in great live music, here are some events taking place online to enjoy while staying home this weekend: Rhiannon Giddens' February concert with Francesco Turrisi and Jason Sypher at SFJAZZ gets its digital premiere tonight; she gives a live performance on Sunday for the Bang on a Can Marathon, which includes sets by Terry Riley, Nico Muhly, and more; also on Sunday, Gaby Moreno performs live on QChamberstream to benefit Color of Change; and Sam Amidon performs on The Momentary's Instagram Live.

Guatemalan-born singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno has released "Yo Me Quedo en Casa," a new video in partnership with UNICEF Guatemala and with the help of some young family members and friends to remind everyone to stay home and practice social distancing to help stop COVID-19. You can watch it and find the lyrics here. And, as part of UNICEF's efforts to promote learning at home, families are encouraged to record a video of their children singing the song using the hashtag #AprendoEnCasa. Moreno was named a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF Guatemala in February.

Gaby Moreno's Nonesuch debut album, ¡Spangled!, a collaboration with Van Dyke Parks, was released late last year. Moreno marked the album's release with a concert at Kaufman Music Center's Merkin Hall in NYC on December 2, as part of the Ecstatic Music series. She was joined by Metropolis Ensemble and LADAMA, the all-women Latin alternative band, to perform Parks' arrangements of songs from the album. You can now watch seven songs from the concert here.

Chris Thile and Gaby Moreno helped celebrate Dolly Parton's recent birthday with a performance of her song "Blue Smoke" for a special "Encores and Extras Compilation" episode of Live From Here last weekend. You can watch their performance of the song, as well as Thile's solo performance of "Little Sparrow," here. (Thile performed on Parton's 2001 album, Little Sparrow.) Chris Thile has several US solo concert dates in the weeks ahead, and Live From Here returns live from The Town Hall in New York City on February 8.

Gaby Moreno begins a two-week US Roots Rising! tour with Liz Vice and Matt Andersen. The tour begins in the Pacific Northwest this weekend, followed by stops in California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado. Moreno then heads East to perform from ¡Spangled!, her album with Van Dyke Parks, at NYC's Kaufman Music Center, join Ben Folds and the NSO at The Kennedy Center in DC, and headline a show in Miami.
